Turnkey Irrigation Projects Retrofit Success: Black Pepper Greenhouses Converted for Cannabis
This project involved the transformation of an existing black pepper cultivation site into a highly controlled cannabis production facility in Thailand. The adaptation demonstrates Metzer’s ability to retrofit greenhouse infrastructure to meet the demands of modern medical cannabis cultivation.
How We Made It Happen
Challenge
The main challenge was converting eight traditional greenhouses—originally designed for black pepper—into a state-of-the-art environment compliant with strict cannabis production regulations. This required integrating advanced irrigation and water treatment systems, climate control, and full-spectrum security measures within an already built structure.
Resolution
Metzer delivered a complete irrigation solution based on precise drip irrigation using Gali PC pressure-compensated drippers, ensuring uniform delivery across all plants. The scope included a reverse osmosis (RO) system for water treatment, advanced air circulation and purification systems, and the full design and installation of security infrastructure—meeting the highest regulatory standards. The result is a productive and secure cannabis cultivation operation built on repurposed infrastructure with minimal disruption.
